About
Effingham Roots is the premier independent countywide establishment dedicated to the uncovering, collecting, and teaching the "hidden" but rich African American heritage, history and legacy that exists throughout Effingham County, Georgia. ER examines the earliest colonial presence and contributions made by African Americans, which directly helped to establish Effingham County. Also examined is how the enormous sacrifices made by Effingham's large slave population contributed to the monumental success of the State of Georgia and it's benefits made to the United States, as a whole.

Mission
As an educational and research outlet, Effingham Roots teaches Effingham's African American history through a variety of educational workshops, seminars and research services.
- Established by the descendants of Georgia's enslaved, Effingham Roots serves as a living and oral history to recognize the sacrifices and service of African Americans to Effingham County, Ga.
- We aim to bridge the gap between racial divisions by promoting solidarity through preserving the truth of the past with an open, fair, and honest dialogue that will connect our communities.
- Our goal is to educate schools, civic groups and the general public about the long and rich history of it's African American citizenry, which have largely been ignored, overlooked, and unrecognized across Effingham County's present display of monuments, statues, street names, buildings, historical events, etc.
- History proves that Effingham County's success and longevity could not have occurred without the blood, sacrifice and servitude of the enslaved and their children's children--a priceless legacy rendered invisible by historians.
